PARISH BARBECUE
21ST JUNE 2009
![]() On 21st June, a brilliantly hot Summer Sunday, around 100 parishioners and friends came to St. Mary’s Parish Centre to enjoy our PARISH FAMILY BARBECUE, which once again was a supremely happy, friendly occasion held in the beautiful garden at St. Mary’s. A fine team of parishioners who had been working hard on preparations throughout the week, began in the early morning to set up the tables and the bookstall, prepare the meat and the many salads and desserts, and then swelter cheerfully over the barbecue grills. But their tasks did not end there. At the end of the afternoon they were still hard at work on the less glamorous jobs of clearing away and returning the garden to normal. This was intended to be a social event rather than a fund raiser but working out costs vs. uncertain ticket sales in order to avoid making a loss is never a simple matter. At the end of the day, with all the bills paid and all the ticket sales accounted for (plus a fine contribution from the ever-popular book stall) the organizers were delighted to find themselves with a surplus to be contributed to parish funds.
